Sile, was born and raised in the Connemara Gaeltacht and was surrounded by music and song from an early age. Her first language is Irish (“Gaelic”). She is a full-time member of the traditional Irish music group Líadan and regularly contributes to TV and radio programmes. Síle has performed in Japan, Germany, Palestine and the Philippines. She has toured the USA with the Irish traditional music legends, The Chieftains. Síle is also an academic, specializing in aspects of Irish Traditional Music and Irish Culture. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Irish from the University of Maynooth, a Masters Degree in Irish from National University of Galway, a Graduate Diploma in Music Education and a Masters Degree in Traditional Irish Music from the University of Limerick. She has also been awarded a PHD doctorate from the University of Limerick.
